At each version i, the database contains a tuple (Ti, Oi, Si) representing the transaction (Ti), transaction output (Oi), and ledger state (Si).
Given a deterministic execution function Apply, the meaning of the tuple is: executing transaction Ti against ledger state Si−1 produces output Oi and a new ledger state Si; that is, Apply(Si−1, Ti) → ⟨Oi, Si⟩.
Execute a transaction against the ledger state at the latest version.
